Hopedale, Massachusetts

Hopedale is a small town in Worcester County, with a population of approximately 6,000 residents. Hopedale was first settled in 1660, but was purchased by the Draper Brothers in 1856 who brought the loom industry to Hopedale. Hopedale is included in the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor and remains a historic mill village to this day.


Did you know…

 

  • George Draper designed, funded, and constructed the Hopedale Town Hall, which is constructed of Milford granite and sandstone.
  • The marble sculpture outside the library was also paid for by the Drapers and shipped from Rome in 1904.
  • The family loom business continued to develop with subsequent generations, and at its peak, the Draper Corporation was the largest maker of textile looms in the United States. The company was acquired by Rockwell International in 1967. Although the Draper factory in Hopedale closed in 1980, other local businesses have continued to grow and succeed.

 

The Tri-County Regional Chamber has been supporting businesses in the town of Hopedale since 1922.
